We love clients who have a healthy respect for a home’s origins. The owners of this terrace house definitely qualify. They were the caretakers for the old couple that used to own this home and ended up taking over most of the space. However, they retained the innermost room for the couple and continued to allow them to live there as family. But the issue was that this “senior room” was a dark, cloistered space with no exposure to natural light. We have a knack for turning problems into opportunities, so we used glass blocks for the roof, allowing sunlight to shine directly into the room, and added internal windows. We also used vent blocks to build a feature wall, maximizing the illumination of the home’s interior.
